Directorate General Occupational Safety And Health
The office of the Chief Adviser of factories, which earlier known as Directorate General Factory Advice Service & Labour Institutes (DGFASLI) and now as Directorate General Occupational Safety and Health (DGOSH), was setup in 1945 with the objective of advising Central and State Governments on administration of the Factories Act, 1948 now subsumed under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020 and coordinating the factory inspection services in the States. The DGOSH comprises:
Headquarters situated in Mumbai.
Central Labour Institute in Mumbai.
Regional Labour Institutes in Chennai, Kanpur, Kolkata, Faridabad and Shillong.
Inspectorates of Dock Safety at Mumbai, Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Kandla, Mormugao, Kolkata, Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Kochi, New Mangalore and Tuticorin.
The DGOSH is an attached office of the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India and serves as a technical arm to assist the Ministry in formulating national policies on occupational safety and health in factories and docks.
