Expanding OSH network in India Sub-continent

DGFASLI is playing an important role in providing OSH services to the neighbouring SAARC Nations for improving the occupational Safety and Health of the workers working in these countries.

DGFASLI in collaboration with ILO organised a technical meet of officials from the SAARC Countries to increase awareness on OSH. Recently, "Trainer's Training" Programmes in Maldives and Nepal have been organised.

International Co-operation for Capacity Building

The technological advancements and the emerging challenges in the field of OSH demand augmentation of resources and capacity building of OSH professionals to keep abreast with the latest development in the field of OSH. DGFASLI has undertaken the task of technical cooperation with international agencies. Recently, the MOUs have been signed with the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) Germany. DGFASLI organised 1st International Vision Zero Conference on OSH in New Delhi in March, 2017, which was attended by more than 1500 OSH Professionals. To continue the OSH momentum, the 2nd International Vision Zero Conference on OSH is being organised in Mumbai from 18-20, 2019.

Hazard Management in Ship Recycling Industry

India has the distinction of having the largest ship recycling facility in the world. Every year hundreds of ships come to Alang in Gujarat on their last voyage. The ship recycling has been regarded as a hazardous activity and occupational safety and health of the workers is of prime importance. DGFASLI has been playing an important role in ensuring safety and health of the workers. In order to further augment the activities. DGFASLI signed a MOU with Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) for identifying hazards associated in ship recycling work and their management through research, training and awareness creation.

Catering to the Specific OSH needs and services in North Eastern Region (NER)

There is thrust of economic development in the North East Regional (NER) and therefore there is an urgent need to take of the occupational safety and health of the workers. To cater to the specific OSH needs and services in North Eastern Region of India. DGFASLI is establishing a Regional Labour Institute at Shillong, Meghalaya. The Foundation stone of the institute has been laid down on 6th January, 2017 and the construction of the institute building and hostel is in progress.

Identification and Management of Occupational Diseases

DGFASLI has carried out a comprehensive National Occupational Health and Safety Survey in Silicosis Prone Industries to identify the cases of silicosis and assess the preventive, remedial and rehabilitative measures in silicosis prone industries. The National Study on Occupational Safety, Health & Environment in the Asbestos-Cement Product Industries to assess the status of asbestosis on a national basis is in progress.

Occupational Disease Awareness Centre

DGFASLI has developed an 'Asbestos & Silica Exhibition Centre' at Regional Labour Institute, Faridabad, which is first of its kind in India to spread awareness amongst stakeholders on different aspects of safety & health with asbestos and silica.

OSH Awareness at Doorstep

Under MOU with 3M India Ltd. DGFASLI has introduced ' Audhyogik Suraksha Rath' to enhance OSH awareness at doors steps in industrial clusters of India. Two fully equipped exhibition vans are visiting industries and MSME clusters for creating awareness by displaying and demonstrating the importance of Safety work practices. Daily more than 100 workers are being trained and educated on safe and good work practices.

Online "Risk Based Random Inspection System' (RBRIS) in Major Ports of the Country

In order to bring in transparency and increase efficiency of the inspection system in the ports, DGFASLI has developed online 'Risk Based Random Inspection System' (RBRIS) in the major ports of India to ensure safety, health & welfare of the dock workers in implementation of Dock Workers (Safety, Health & Welfare) Act, 1986 & Regulations, 1990. This is an initiative under Digital India and has resulted in saving of time, efficient inspection system and availability of data.

Establishment of Occupational Health Training,. Research & Development Centre

DGFASLI has signed MOU with ESIC to bring about synergy between two departments working on the health aspects of the workers. Under the MOU an Occupational Health Training, Research & Development Centre has been established at RLI, Faridabad. The data related to Occupational Health is shared to design interventions for prevention of Occupational Diseases at workplace. The ESIC doctor are being trained in the area of OSH to help them diagnose the Occupational Diseases at early stage and help in prevention.

Basic Occupational Health Service (BOHS) in India

The unorganised sector in the country is not covered under the legislation framework. These sectors are required to be provided with Occupational Health Services for prevention of occupational diseases. For reaching out to this sector and to develop and strengthen Basic Occupational Health Service (BOHS) in India. DGFASLI has recently signed a MoU with Indian Association of Occupational Health (IAOH).

Development of OSH Profile in India

DGFASLI is Developing OSH Profile as per Global practices with the support of International Labour Organisation (ILO) to assess gaps in the National OSH system and to identify priority areas to catalyse the activities of National OSH system.

Recently, the Workshop on National OSH Profile has been conducted at Hyderabad, Telangana in December 23-24, 2019, which was attended by central and states government officials and stakeholders dealing with OSH issues
